El SENASICA, hace 16 años opera la campaña contra langosta centroamericana lo que ha permitido su control y evitar el impacto devastador en el campo mexicano
La langosta afecta más de 400 especies vegetales y devora 100 toneladas de alimento verde en un solo día. En México se encuentra bajo control
Ciudad de Mexico, a 27 de enero de 2021.- La langosta centroamericana (Schistocerca piceifrons Walker) ha estado presente en nuestro país por siglos, su control es muy importante pues es una especie devastadora de gran escala que afecta más de 400 especies vegetales y devora 100 toneladas de alimento verde en un solo día, por ello, la Secretaría de Agricultura, a través del SENASICA, opera la campaña de control en la que participan 60 técnicos del organismo que realizan en campo acciones de exploración, muestreo y control.
Asimismo, realiza exploraciones en las áreas gregarinas (temperaturas superiores a los 27 C) y el control de brotes o manchas con aplicación de agroquímicos en los cultivos, también existe un Manual Operativo de Control de Langosta realizado y divulgado por SENASICA que detalla las etapas y consideraciones para realizar un Manejo Integrado de la Plaga.
A lo anterior se suman campañas de difusión y herramientas web para seguimiento como parte del Programa nacional de Langosta, como es el mapa interactivo que muestra el monitoreo de la actividad de vigilancia fitosanitaria en todo el país (en tiempo cuasi-real), allí se indica:

Esto permitió que en 2020, en la Región Huasteca –donde confluyen los estados de Veracruz, San Luis Potosí y Tamaulipas—, se detectara la plaga en fase juvenil con densidades de 37 a 70 adultos por cada 100 metros cuadrados, brote que actualmente está controlado gracias al trabajo de combate que realizan los técnicos de la Secretaría de Agricultura en 465 hectáreas con aspersiones de productos amigables con el medio ambiente, realizados a base de hongos tóxicos para ese tipo de insectos.
La Campaña fitosanitaria, realiza permanentemente las tareas de control en 10 entidades del país: Campeche, Chiapas, Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz y Yucatán, así con estas acciones, cada año se protegen, directa e indirectamente, alrededor de seis millones de hectáreas de cultivos básicos, cultivos industriales y hortalizas en esos estados, que representan alrededor del 25 por ciento del total de la superficie sembrada a nivel nacional.
