Ciudad de México 31 de enero de 2026.-Un equipo de investigadores encabezado por Mariano Barbacid, en el Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas (CNIO), logró eliminar por completo tumores de cáncer de páncreas en ratones mediante una triple terapia combinada, un avance significativo frente a uno de los tipos de cáncer más agresivos.
Y es que los resultados del estudio fueron publicados en la revista científica PNAS, donde se documenta una regresión duradera de los tumores sin desarrollo de resistencias, uno de los principales obstáculos en el tratamiento de esta enfermedad.
La estrategia experimental se basa en bloquear la vía del gen KRAS, que se encuentra mutado en la mayoría de los casos de cáncer de páncreas, actuando en tres puntos distintos de la misma vía molecular. De esta forma, se impide que las células tumorales se adapten y eviten el efecto del tratamiento.
Los investigadores aclararon que el avance se ha conseguido únicamente en modelos animales y que, por el momento, no es posible trasladar esta terapia a ensayos clínicos en humanos, ya que aún se requieren más estudios para evaluar su seguridad y viabilidad.
No obstante, el hallazgo abre una nueva línea de investigación para el desarrollo de terapias combinadas contra el cáncer de páncreas, cuya tasa de supervivencia a cinco años permanece por debajo del 10%.
